Bach said that the threat of Ukraine to miss the Olympics 2024 because of Russia does not correspond to the mission of the IOC
The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, assessed the threat of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine to boycott the 2024 Games in Paris if Russians are admitted. Bach’s words are quoted by Spiegel.
The functionary said that the boycott by Ukraine does not correspond to the mission of the IOC. “Individual athletes should not be discriminated against by exclusion, even if countries are in a state of conflict,” Bach explained. He also stressed that the suspension of athletes on the basis of their passports is not in line with the mission of the Olympic Charter.
