President of Ukraine Zelensky is disappointed with the position of the IOC on the admission of Russians to competitions
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video message on his Telegram channel, said he was disappointed with the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the admission of Russians to international competitions.
“One cannot help but be disappointed by the statements of the current head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach,” the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
Zelensky indicated that he did not want to figure out what kind of motive the head of the IOC had to promote such an initiative. He added that he had repeatedly discussed with him the issue of allowing Russian athletes to compete.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It is clarified that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
