The NOC of Norway opposed the admission of Russia to international competitions

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Norway opposed the admission of Russia to international competitions. This was reported on the website of the organization.

In Norway, they considered that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) should adhere to the sanctions policy against Russia, and not look for a way out of the situation for athletes. “In the current situation, this is not right, and we strongly recommend not to do this,” they said, drawing attention to the fact that most Olympic committees have begun work on the return of the Russians.

On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It is clarified that only athletes who did not support the CBO in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.

After that, the Olympic champion in cross-country skiing, the head of the Norwegian Athletes’ Committee, Astrid Jacobsen, supported this decision. In her opinion, athletes should not be excluded from competitions based on their nationality.
