Portugal’s Fernando Santos was introduced on Tuesday as the new coach of the Polish national team. He replaced Czesław Michniewicz in this position, with whom the Polish Football Association, despite the promotion of Poles to the 1/8 finals of the World Cup in Qatar, did not decide to extend the expiring contract.

The change of the coach was criticized by Paweł Kryszałowicz, a former Polish representative.
– The situation that we allow a new coach every 12 months is catastrophic [od września 2018 roku było ich czterech: Jerzy Brzêczek, Paulo Sousa, Czesław Michniewicz i teraz Santos – red.]. It doesn’t happen anywhere but here. There is no continuity of work and progress. Nothing can be built with such practices. Each coach has his own tactics, his own people and he looks at it differently
However, he is pleased with the fact that Michniewicz was replaced by Santos.
– Hiring a coach with such experience and such successes is very impressive. For Polish football, it is certainly a huge event. Top shelf selection, so we can’t complain. I am waiting for the effects of the work of coach Santos – added Kryszałowicz.
Kryszałowicz, however, does not like this.
– Łukasz Piszczek is not a coach yet. There are no “papers”. If you want to drive a car, you must have a driving license. I have absolutely nothing against Łukasz, because he was an excellent player who trained under the supervision of great coaches. He certainly learned a lot from them. He is a person who in the future may be a great coach, but today his candidacy is not entirely serious – said Kryszałowicz about Piszczek’s candidacy.
He also criticized Kaczmarek’s candidacy. – Santos’s assistant is to be a guy who is unemployed after being released from Lechia. He is a young coach and should work independently at the club. It is definitely too early for such a distinction as working with senior staff. I understand Piszczek’s candidacy because he is an outstanding footballer. As for Kaczmarek, it is completely incomprehensible and highly doubtful to me – admitted Kryszałowicz.
In his opinion, Jacek Magiera should become an assistant. – He proved that he is a great professional when he worked m. in Legia Warsaw. He is a coach with a vision and he could be a coach in a few years. He would have gained experience with Santos. Why not offer him such a position? He has been in the profession longer than Kaczmarek – added Kryszałowicz.
Fernando Santos will debut in his new position in less than two months. Then the Polish national team will play the first match in the qualifiers for the European Championship 2024. Our players will play in Prague against the Czech Republic on March 24.
