Myth 1: Water with lemon cleanses the body
Many people believe that lemon water will cleanse the body. It turns out that’s not true. – It does not cleanse the body and has little vitamin C – emphasizes Michał Wrzosek. A glass of warm water with lemon, however, hydrates you well, so it’s a good way to start the day.
Myth 2: We get fat from carbohydrates. What’s the truth?
Everyone has probably heard about the harmfulness of carbohydrates. However, this is a harmful myth. – We get fat from excess calories – points out the nutritionist and emphasizes that our body is able to convert sugar into fat to a small extent. It is not worth giving up carbohydrates completely, but it is better to choose whole grain products. The source of carbohydrates are not only bread, pasta or rice, but also vegetables and fruits.
Myth 3: Is honey really a good sugar substitute?
Many people consider honey to be a healthier and less fattening sugar substitute. Nothing could be more wrong, because honey is mostly glucose and fructose. – In fact, honey is almost sugar itself, it has slightly less calories, it is only slightly healthier – states Michał Wrzosek.
Myth 4: Potatoes are fattening. Are you sure?
Potatoes, like other carbohydrates, often fall victim to dietary myths. However, this vegetable itself is not responsible for weight gain. However, eating potatoes in the form of fried chips, potato pancakes or mashed potatoes with butter can provide the body with excess calories. You can safely reach for boiled potatoes.
Myth 5: Is frying with coconut oil healthy?
For years, coconut oil was considered a healthy fat replacement for frying or salads. Coconut oil, however, contains a lot of saturated fatty acids, which cause the liver to start producing bad cholesterol. – If you must fry, then fry in olive oil – notes Michał Wrzosek.
