Magda Linette (45th WTA) ends her competition in the Australian Open in the semifinals, where she lost 6:7, 2:6 to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (5th WTA). This is the greatest success of a Polish woman in her career. “Magda Linette fought, ran around the court and combined, but the power of Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final of the Australian Open was too great. The Polish tennis player pulled aces from her sleeve, but the rival fulfilled the key condition – she remained calm” – . In the final of the tournament, Sabalenka will play against Kazakh Jelena Rybakina (25th WTA).

Iga ¦wiątek (1st WTA) reacted to the result of Magda Linette’s rivalry with Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final of the Australian Open, who publicly congratulated the older compatriot on the greatest success in her career. “Mega congratulations Magda. Sky is the limit” – wrote the leader of the WTA ranking on Twitter. Thus, Linette joined Iga Świątek and Agnieszka Radwańska, who were the only tennis players from our country to achieve such a result during the Australian Open. Świątek did it in 2022, and the older of the Radwański sisters – in 2014 and 2016.

In addition, the semi-final performed by Magda Linette meant that the tennis player from Poznań will note a significant advancement in the WTA ranking and will have the highest position in her career. Linette moves up from 45th to 22nd place with 1770 points. In front of Poland will be, among others Estonian Anett Kontaveit (18th WTA), Spanish Paula Bados (20th WTA) and Czech Karolina Pliskova (21st WTA). So far, Linette occupied the highest position in February 2020, when it was ranked 33rd.

In addition, Magda Linette will be ranked fourth in the WTA Race ranking (866 points), from which the eight best tennis players will perform in the final tournament at the end of 2023. Only the other semi-finalists of the Australian Open – Aryna Sabalenka, Jelena Rybakina and Wiktoria Azarenka (24th WTA) are ahead of the Polish woman.
