The last time is definitely not good for Riot Games. The start of the new season in League of Legends coincided with an extremely stressful situation, i.e. a data leak from the company’s servers. Hackers, according to information, were to gain access to the source codes of popular titles. Now we know the expectations of criminals.
Millions of dollars are expected
A few days ago, Riot Games, via its social media, announced a hack to the company’s servers and the theft of confidential data. These were not to concern user information, including logins and passwords, but only the source codes of some of the company’s productions. The official message mentions League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, as well as anti-cheat software.
In an official announcement, the company admitted that it had received e-mails with ransom demands. It was then announced that they were not going to give in to the criminals’ demands without going into too much detail. These, however, appeared in the media unofficially, and as reported by the Motherboard portal, hackers expect $ 10 million. If they do not receive the funds, they threaten to publish the data on the Internet, as well as publish specific information about how the security of the company was compromised.
Hackers know about the company’s plans
Riot Games, in a statement issued via Twitter, admitted that the stolen files also contain many features that could only be added to the game servers in the future. If they are published, we will learn many of the company’s intentions for the development of its most popular title, i.e. League of Legends.
At the same time, the company turned to the gaming community. Due to the attack, individual titles may encounter problems with correct operation in the near future. At the same time, users were assured that their data had not been stolen from the servers.
