The Olympic Council of Asia invited Russian athletes to take part in the Asian Games
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games. This was reported on the official website of the organization.
It is noted that at the moment the OCA is on standby, because the International Olympic Committee (IOC) continues to study ways to return Russians and Belarusians to tournaments. At the same time, the IOC supported the idea of allowing national teams to compete in Asia.
The next Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023 in Hangzhou, China. Athletes from 45 countries will compete for medals in 40 sports.
On January 25, the IOC announced that they were thinking about the return of Russian athletes to tournaments on an individual basis. It was clarified that only Russians and Belarusians who did not support the CBO in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get a chance to compete.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis, boxing, MMA and chess, the Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
