The RFU said that the decision to deprive Russia of the UEFA Super Cup has nothing to do with sports
The communications service of the Russian Football Union (RFU) reacted to the deprivation of the country of the right to host the match for the UEFA Super Cup in 2023. It is reported by “Championship”.
They said that such a decision of the Union of European Football Associations was expected and had nothing to do with sports. “Kazan has vast experience in holding international competitions of the highest level, excellent infrastructure and the highest readiness for holding a match, including in terms of security guarantees,” the RFU added.
Earlier, UEFA announced the transfer of the match for the Super Cup from Kazan to Athens. The reasons for this decision were not specified.
In February 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Russian teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team has lost the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
