Philadelphia Flyers Provorov was hit in the head with a puck in an NHL game against Winnipeg.

Russian Philadelphia Flyers guard Ivan Provorov was hit in the head with a puck in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game against the Winnipeg Jets. This was reported on the league website.

The incident happened in the second period. After the throw of the Winnipeg player Josh Morrissey, the puck hit the Russian in the head. Provorov fell on the ice from the blow and was in this position for about 30 seconds. After that, he was able to get up on his own and reach the bench. Provorov managed to avoid injury and soon returned to the ice.

The meeting ended with a score of 5:3 in favor of Winnipeg. Provorov scored the first goal for Philadelphia in the 19th minute of the match.

On January 18, Provorov refused to go out for a workout before the match with the Anaheim Ducks because of the use of uniforms with LGBT symbols on it. The athlete explained that he respects the choice of everyone, but prefers to remain true to himself and his religion.

After that, Canadian TSN journalist Gord Miller called for the Russian hockey player to be punished. He considered that freedom of speech does not exempt from consequences. However, the leadership of the NHL emphasized that the players have the right to decide in which promotions to participate.
