“As a young child, I dreamed of surviving my retirement in front of my friends and family and the Australian fans who have always supported me. What annoys me the most is that I can’t go to every tournament and see all the people I love.
“I know I will miss playing professional tennis, all the amazing experiences and emotions of being on the road and doing what I’ve been doing for almost my entire life. I look back and am grateful for my entire career,” the tennis player wrote on social media before the tournament.
Samantha Stosur was ranked fourth in the WTA ranking. As a singles player, she won nine WTA tournaments, including the US Open Grand Slam in 2011.
She fared much better in doubles tournaments. There she reached the position of the leader of the ranking, where she spent as many as 61 weeks. In 2005, she triumphed in the US Open Grand Slam, which she won in 2011. In total, she won as many as 28 WTA tournaments. In addition to the American Grand Slam, she also won Roland Garros (2006) and the Australian Open (2019).
