After a week of games at the Australian Open, only four of the ten best tennis players in the world according to the WTA rankings remain in the game. They are Jessica Pegula (3rd WTA), Caroline Garcia (4th WTA), Aryna Sabalenka (5th WTA) and Belinda Bencic (9th WTA). After the end of the tournament, there will be a few changes in the top of the WTA lists. The only thing that is certain is that the leader will still be Iga Świątek.
Iga Świątek will remain the leader of the WTA ranking. Changes possible behind her back
The ranking may be reshuffled behind Iga Świątek’s back. The current vice-leader Ons Jabeur dropped out of the competition in Melbourne in the second round after losing to the 86th rocket of the world – Marketa Vondrousova. Currently, the Tunisian has only 210 points advantage in the virtual ranking over the third Pegula, who is still fighting on Australian courts. If the American advances to the next round, she will have 5,350 points and will overtake Jabeur, becoming the new runner-up in the ranking. If it turns out that Pegula wins, her total achievements after the end of the struggle will amount to 6570 points.
Caroline Garcia and Aryna Sabalenka also have chances for promotion. The Frenchwoman will face Magda Linette in the fourth round. In the event of eliminating the Polish woman, she will have 4835 points on her account, which will bring her much closer to Pegula and Jabeur. In case of winning the entire tournament, Garcia will have a total of 6405 points and will be on the podium of the rankings. In turn, if Sabalenka reached for the final triumph, she will have 6,100 points on her account.

There may also be minimal changes towards the end of the top ten. The Swiss Bencic is slowly approaching Daria Kasatkina (8th WTA) and it is possible that after the Australian Open she will be ranked higher than ninth. Jelena Ostapenko may also advance to tenth place – this will happen if she wins in the quarterfinals.
Magda Linette (45th WTA), who will fight for the quarterfinals on Monday, has a chance for a significant promotion. Thanks to the promotion to the fourth round, the Polish woman currently has 1,230 points in the virtual ranking, which means that she will move up to 38th place in the latest ranking. If Garcia is eliminated, the 30-year-old will have 1,420 points on her account, which will move her to 28th place. If she wins the entire tournament, she has a chance of even making the top ten.
