Tennis player Daniil Medvedev after exit from the Australian Open said problems with confidence
Former world number one, Russian Daniil Medvedev spoke about the departure from the Australian Open in 2023. His words are quoted by the YouTube channel of the tournament.
“It’s about confidence. Now I have little problems in order to win matches with opponents who are able to play at a high level, ”said the athlete. He noted that he played well, but not as necessary to win.
Medvedev also appreciated the performance of his opponent, American Sebastian Korda. “His tennis is different from the game of others. He is very aggressive, he goes to the ball very early. Maybe a little like Novak [Джокович]”, – said the tennis player, noting that not everyone is able to play like that.
Earlier on Friday, January 20, Medvedev ended his performance at the Australian Open, losing to Korda in three sets in the third round match. The 2000 Olympic tennis champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov explained the defeat of the Russian by the fact that Medvedev’s game became predictable for his opponents.
For the first time since 2018, Medvedev failed to reach the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open. In 2022, the Russian reached the final of the tournament, where he lost to Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
