Prosecutor asks and Daniel Alves will not be entitled to bail in Spain

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked that 39-year-old soccer player Daniel Alves be placed in preventive detention without payment of bail, after the Brazilian was arrestedthis Friday, in Barcelona, ​​on suspicion of sexual assault – informed a source from the institution itself.

According to this source, “the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked for communicated preventive detention without bail”. In a more recent statement, it was confirmed that the player will not be entitled to bail.

Alves was detained this morning after being summoned for questioning over a suspected sexual assault on a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in late December, reported a source from Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan police.

Transferred to the court in the City of Justice, in the Catalan capital, the Brazilian gave a statement to the judge. Subsequently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested that the player, currently with the Mexican club Los Pumas, be arrested pending trial.

On January 2, the Catalan police received a complaint from a woman who said she had suffered unwanted touches from Daniel Alves, the same sources told AFP. The events allegedly took place in a Barcelona nightclub on the night of December 30 to 31, according to the local press.

In a video message transmitted to the Antena 3 channel, on January 5, Alves denied the facts.

“I don’t know her, I’ve never seen her,” he said of the whistleblower.

“I would like to deny everything”, he added, confirming that he was at the club, “having fun”, but “without invading the space of others”.
