Yevgeny Kafelnikov called Daniil Medvedev’s game predictable for opponents
The 2000 Olympic tennis champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov said he was not surprised by the departure of the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the third round of the Australian Open 2023. His words are quoted by the Championship.
“The aura that was around Medvedev two years ago, when the opponents did not understand how to beat him, is now gone. Unfortunately, his game has become predictable for rivals, ”Kafelnikov explained. He added that the Russian needs to change something, as in the future it will be even more difficult for him to maintain leadership positions.
Earlier on Friday, January 20, Medvedev crashed out of the Australian Open, losing to Sebastian Korda. The meeting ended in three sets with a score of 7:6 (9:7), 6:3, 7:6 (7:4) in favor of the American.
For the first time since 2018, Medvedev failed to reach the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open. In 2022, the Russian reached the final of the tournament, where he lost to Spaniard Rafael Nadal.
