ISU canceled the Grand Prix in figure skating in Russia in the 2023/2024 season
The stage of the Grand Prix in figure skating in Russia in the 2023/2024 season has been canceled. This was reported on the website of the International Skating Union (ISU).
The decision was made by the ISU board. It is noted that international competitions in Russia and Belarus will not be held until further notice.
In April, the ISU canceled another Russian stage of the Grand Prix series, which was supposed to take place in the fall of 2022. Due to sanctions, domestic athletes missed the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 European Championship.
At the end of February, many sports organizations banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, the Russians continue to perform in a neutral status.
