Ask a man from Cádiz what is your favorite holiday of the year. In all probability, he will answer that, without a doubt, it is Carnival.. Although the main days of Carnival coincide throughout the country, not all the places that have important celebrations of this colorful festival celebrate it at the same time and yes, Cádiz is one of the cities that celebrates it in style. It is not surprising, if one takes into account that in 1980 it was already declared of International Tourist Interest. In addition, the one in Cádiz is one of the longest carnivals, because although it will officially be celebrated in 2023 between February 16 and 26, since the beginning of the year the essence of this popular and beloved festival begins to be noticed with the start of COAC.
The Official Contest of Cádiz Carnival Groups is held in the Grand Theater Falla as of January 21. The carnival groups show their repertoires, which they have rehearsed during the previous four months, in a contest that is broadcast daily. Later, the groups take to the streets to celebrate the Carnival of Cádiz party that lasts approximately one week.

How to get tickets for the COAC?
For the Official Contest of Cádiz Carnival Groups it is possible get tickets by different means; However, it must be remembered that the COAC is quite an institution in the city, which is why the ‘tickets’ tend to sell out every year. In 2023, there are two possibilities to buy tickets for the COAC: on the one hand, they can be obtained ‘online’ and, on the other, at the ticket office of the Gran Teatro Falla. The tickets for the preliminary phase They are sold out in both ways: they went on sale on January 13 and in both cases, both online and in person at the box office, they were sold out that same day. That’s why it’s impossible attend any of the sessions of the preliminary phase of the COAC, which runs from Saturday, January 21 to Saturday, February 4.
The tickets that are available today are those that give access to the two days of the COAC semifinal in its youth version (the children’s COAC is also sold out), which is held next weekend. They can be purchased from 3 euros on the Bacantix website:
