Kostornaya commented on the transition to pair skating

Russian figure skater Alena Kostornaya commented on the transition from singles to pairs. Her words are quoted by TASS.

“In life, an athlete always has to make a choice when the realization comes that something needs to be changed. Sometimes it’s a transition from coach to coach, and sometimes it’s a transition to another type, ”said the athlete. She added that she always admired the throws and lifts that sports duets performed.

The figure skater noted that she began to learn paired elements to participate in the show, and then thought about changing the look. She also assessed the likelihood of participating in official tournaments. “I don’t want to guess what will happen next. Of course, we have plans to compete in our heads, but time will tell whether they can be implemented, ”said Kostornaya.

Earlier, on January 16, coach Elena Buyanova announced the termination of work with Kostornaya because of the athlete’s desire to switch to pair skating. She noted that the figure skater, who during her performance on the show tried to do paired elements with Georgy Kunitsa, is now training with Russian specialist Sergei Roslyakov.

In July 2020, Kostornaya left the Eteri Tutberidze group and began training under the guidance of Evgeni Plushenko. In March 2021, the athlete returned to Sambo-70, and a year later she moved to CSKA to Buyanova. On account of Kostornaya, the gold of the European Championship 2020 and the Grand Prix final.
