Washington Hockey Now: hockey player Ovechkin will break Gretzky’s record for the 2024/2025 season in the NHL

American journalist Sammy Silber has called the deadline for the release of the Russian striker “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin in first place in the race of snipers of the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported on the Washington Hockey Now website.

The journalist said that if the 37-year-old Russian maintains the current pace, he will end the season with 54 goals. Thus, the striker can close the gap to Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky in NHL goals to 60. According to Silber, the record will be broken by the 2024/2025 season.

On January 15, Ovechkin scored in Washington’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. For the forward, this puck was the 810th in his career in the league. Thus, he strengthened his position in the list of the best scorers in the NHL and reduced the gap from the leader Gretzky to 84 goals.

Ovechkin has been with the Capitals since 2005. He won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2018.
