CAS rejected the appeals of Russian clubs on the decision to suspend the contracts of foreign players
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeals of Russian clubs against the decision of the International Football Federation (FIFA) to suspend the contracts of legionnaires in the Russian Premier League (RPL). This was reported on the website of the organization.
The protests were directed by Zenit St. Petersburg, CSKA Moscow, Dynamo and Lokomotiv, as well as Sochi, Rostov, Krasnodar and Rubin Kazan. They demanded to cancel the possibility for foreigners to suspend contracts unilaterally.
On June 21, it became known that FIFA extended the permission to suspend contracts for foreign players playing in the RPL. The option is valid until June 2023.
On February 28, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. The teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was unable to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
