A judge in Santa Elena sentenced Geovanny RO to 40 months in prison for wrongful death due to the traffic accident registered weeks ago in Santa Elena.
The sentence was handed down in an abbreviated procedure hearing held in the province of Santa Elena.
The judge also imposed the payment of a fine of 10 basic salaries (4,500 dollars) and 29,000 dollars as comprehensive reparation to the five victims.

Geovanny R. was detained by personnel from the Ecuadorian Transit Commission (CTE) on December 11, 2022 on the Guayaquil-Santa Elena highway, after causing a triple vehicular crash that left one person dead and injured.
He was ordered to be banned from leaving the country and regularly presented before a prosecutor once a week.
After the accident, videos allegedly of the man in an apparent alcoholic state circulated on social networks. In the videos, presumably beer bottles were observed inside the car.
The abbreviated procedure hearing – in which the defendant accepted his responsibility and participation in the crime – took place on the afternoon of this Thursday, January 12, at the La Libertad Judicial Unit.
During the process, the prosecutor Cecilia Peña Merino presented as evidence the arrest report, the version of the arresting agents and traffic investigators, the version and the complaints of the injured parties.
In addition, the recognition report of the scene of the events, the autopsy report and removal of the victim’s body, the damage and appraisal reports, the report on the reconstruction of the events and other evidence entered in chain of custody were attached to the Traffic Accident Office, among others.

For the other driver involved in the accident, the Prosecutor’s Office did not file charges, so the flagrante delicto was not classified, and she was immediately released.
