Navka confirmed that the athlete is in intensive care in a serious condition. “Doctors are doing their best. We hope that he is still strong and his body will cope with this terrible disease, ”she said.
Earlier it became known that the 45-year-old athlete fell ill a week before entering the hospital, but continued to perform in the show, despite the high temperature. It was noted that instead of turning to specialists, Kostomarov was treated by swimming in an ice hole.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He is in critical condition under medical sedation. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in combination with influenza B. The athlete is connected to a ventilator, as well as to an apparatus for saturating the blood with oxygen.
Navka and Kostomarov are 2006 Olympic champions in ice dancing. In addition, the couple won the World Championship twice, the European Championship three times and the final of the Grand Prix series of the International Skating Union. In 2006, the athletes completed their careers.
