FIFA appoints Saudi Arabian woman as international referee for the first time

Anoud Al-Asmari becomes the first female international judge from Saudi Arabia

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has appointed a woman from Saudi Arabia as an international referee for the first time. This is reported by Arabian Daily.

This status was given to 34-year-old Anud Al-Asmari. She admitted that she was happy to be among the judges of the international category, which, in addition to her, includes seven more male arbitrators from Saudi Arabia. Al-Asmari also answered the question of whether she is ready to work at the men’s team match. The girl said she did not want to think about it until the appointment is approved by the Saudi Football Association.

Al-Asmari began her refereeing career in 2018. She has previously officiated a number of matches for the Saudi Arabia women’s team, which was founded in 2019.

On December 1, a female referee officiated a World Cup match for the first time. Frenchwoman Stephanie Frappart worked at the 2022 tournament in Qatar in a meeting between the national teams of Germany and Costa Rica, which ended with a score of 4: 2 in favor of the Germans.
