Swede Samuelsson surprised that Olympic champion Wiberg supported Russian sports
Swedish biathlete Sebastian Samuelsson appreciated the reaction of his compatriot, two-time Olympic champion in alpine skiing Pernilla Wiberg to the ban of Russian sports. His words are quoted by Expressen.
The athlete said that he was surprised by the support of Wiberg Russia. In his opinion, in the current situation, Russians and Belarusians should not be allowed to compete. “We see tough sanctions in other areas, and then, of course, sports should not be left out,” Samuelsson stressed.
Earlier, Wiberg said that she did not agree with the Olympic movement, which excluded athletes from some countries. In her opinion, sport should be a unifying force.
At the end of February, many sports organizations banned the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee. In some disciplines, such as motorsport, cycling, tennis and chess, the Russians continue to perform in a neutral status.
