Ecuador closed 2022 with an annual inflation of 3.74%

Food marked inflation again in December and together with personal hygiene products and health expenses were the items that indicated that in the last month of 2022 the general price rise was 0.16%, a higher percentage since 2018, since in these four years the monthly inflation for December was 0.10% (2018), -0.01% (2019), -0.03% (2020) and 0.07% (2021), of according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

Annual inflation stood at 3.74%, in December 2021 this indicator instead stood at 1.94%.

Of the twelve consumer divisions with which inflation is measured, food and non-alcoholic beverages had the highest incidence with these products:

  • Orange
  • Green banana
  • sweet peas
  • Banana
  • Yogurt
  • Rice
  • Tangerine
  • canned tuna
  • baby beans
  • Fresh cheese

In the category of miscellaneous goods and services:

  • Deodorant
  • photocopies
  • skin creams
  • Sunscreen
  • Shampoo
  • Washing and brushing hair for women
  • Gel and hairspray
  • haircut
  • Toilet paper
  • hair treatments

And in health:

  • Mineral supplements, vitamins and anti-anemic preparations
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Analgesics and antipyretics
  • Hospitalization expenses
  • Correction Optical Lenses
  • Specialist medical consultation
  • Antihistamine for systemic use
  • Alimentary tract and metabolism
  • Combinations of cough suppressants and expectorants
  • Preservative

The Family Basic Basket in December 2022 cost $763.44, which represents an increase of $2.30 or 0.30% compared to November. While the Vital Basket increased by 57 cents (0.11%) to settle at $538.96. (YO)
