Hockey player Ovechkin scored the 809th puck in the NHL and reduced the gap on Gretzky to 85 goals
Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin helped the Washington Capitals beat the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game. The results are available on the league website.
The meeting took place on January 6 and ended with a score of 6:2 in favor of the capital’s team. Ovechkin scored early in the third period. The puck became the 809th for the Russian career in the league. Thus, the striker strengthened his position in the list of the best NHL snipers and reduced the gap from the leading Canadian Wayne Gretzky to 85 goals.
Gretzky has 894 career goals. Ovechkin came in second on the night of December 24 with a brace against the Winnipeg Jets.
Earlier, Ovechkin spoke about chasing Gretzky’s record. He stated that he has a long way to go to reach the Canadian.
Ovechkin has been with the Capitals since 2005. He won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2018.
