Estonian football players apologized for the photo with the coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin. The statement of the athletes leads RIA Novosti.

“We regret the situation and apologize to everyone whose feelings were hurt by our dinner and the publication of his photo on social networks. Our conversation revolved only around football, we did not talk about politics, ”the message emphasized. The players noted that they have always defended Estonia on and off the football field and will continue to do so.

Earlier, the MTU Jalgpallihaigla fan association criticized the publication of a photograph in which, in addition to Karpin, Estonian national team captain Konstantin Vasiliev, midfielder Sergei Zenev, ex-player Andrey Stepanov, assistant coach Andres Oper and others were present. A vote was also organized to strip Vasiliev of the captain’s armband.

Karpin is a native of the Estonian city of Narva. He has been the head coach of the Russian national team since the summer of 2021.
