FIS Secretary General Michel Vion called the words about the return of the Russians to the World Cup a mistake
Michel Vion, Secretary General of the International Ski Federation (FIS), assessed the likelihood of the Russians returning to international tournaments. He is quoted by Nettavisen.
Vion called the words about the return of the Russians to the World Cup a mistake. “I said something that I shouldn’t have said. It was not in my competence,” he said.
On September 22, Vion hinted at a possible return to the tournaments of the Russians suspended from international competitions. “We are not talking about holding competitions in Russia, but about the participation of athletes in federation events and World Cups,” he said then.
On March 1, the Norwegian Ski Federation suspended the Russians from competitions held in the country. Later, the International Ski Federation (FIS) extended the ban to all competitions under the auspices of the organization.
