Currently, Kosteniuk plays under the flag of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). From 2024, an athlete who has a Swiss passport for more than 10 years due to her marriage to a citizen of the country will become a member of the Swiss women’s team.

If Kosteniuk moved to the Swiss national team in 2023, the FSE would have to pay a $10,000 commission to the Russian Chess Federation (RCF).
