Some European clubs are slowly returning to training after the break caused by the World Cup in Qatar. Manchester United planned two friendlies with Spanish teams and already managed to discredit themselves in the first one.
Manchester United lost to La Liga outsiders. There were no stars
The penultimate in the La Liga table Cadiz won 4:2. Erik ten Hag decided to take the players who did not go to the World Cup in Qatar and the players of the club’s academy to this meeting. The control game was supposed to give the coach an answer about the form of his players and who of the juniors could become a strengthening of the squad in the future.
In the first half of the game, the full-time substitutes: Martin Dubravka, Aaron wan Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Elanga, and players who got more chances this season: Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof. The attention of the fans could primarily be attracted by Martial, who is coming back from injury, but at the beginning of the season he was winning the competition for a place in the first team with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Frenchman has made seven appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

It was clear from the start of the game that United were not in the best form. In the 14th minute of the game, Cadiz was leading 2:0 after goals from Carlos Carcia and Choco Lozano. Seven minutes later, Martial scored from the penalty spot, but both teams went into the break with the score 2-1 in favor of the hosts. In the second half of the match, the coaches decided to replace almost entire teams and just three minutes after the restart, 17-year-old Kobbie Mainoo equalized. It was the last positive accent in the game of the English club. In the 57th minute, Ruben Sobrino scored for Cadiz, and 20 minutes later Tomas Alarcon made the score 4:2.
Journalists from “The Sun” describe the result as “Erik ten Hague’s nightmare in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era”. “Manchester kicked off the short run around Spain with a devastating defeat, leaving Erik ten Hag with much to think about before the World Cup is over,” the Daily Mirror reported, highlighting Aaron wan Bissaka’s nightmarish performance. The daily writes that defeat is a headache for Ten Hag.
Although Erik ten Hag willingly used the club’s youth, Maxi Oyedele, a player of the Polish U19 team, spent the entire match on the bench.
The Manchester team will get a chance to improve their game after the disastrous result against Cadiz on Saturday, when they face Spain’s Real Betis. With Seville ranked sixth in La Liga, it may not be an easy game for ten Haga.
