Sport-Express: UEFA believes that FIFA will not lift sanctions after Russia moves to Asia
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) spoke about the position of the International Football Federation (FIFA) in Russia after the transition of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to the Asian Confederation. This became known to “Sport-Express”.
According to the source, the head of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, is ready to approve the withdrawal of the RFU, but he stressed that returning under the auspices of the organization would be very difficult. It is noted that the Asian Confederation has the right to accept Russia. At the same time, FIFA is not going to lift sanctions on the country’s participation in international tournaments.
Earlier, the RFU held two meetings of the executive committee, at which the possibility of moving to the Asian confederation was discussed, but no final decision was made. It was noted that UEFA opposed this initiative. At the same time, FIFA will not prevent the Russian team from participating in the selection for the 2026 World Cup if the country moves to Asia.
On February 28, UEFA excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not play in European competitions and other competitions under the auspices of the organization.
