Pablo Caicedo jumps to third place in the general classification in the Tour of Costa Rica | Other Sports | Sports

The Costa Rican Jason Huertas repeated victory this sunday in the third stage of the Tour of Costa Rica and put on the general leader jersey, in a day that had the Ecuadorian Pablo Caicedo on the podium.

Huertas, Team Colono Bike Station Clips cyclist won in a disputed sprint to the Colombian Juan Espinel (Herrera Sports) and the Ecuadorian Caicedo (Movistar-Best PC), second and third, respectively, of the fraction run between Nicoya and Puntarenas.

The day had a tour of 125.93 kilometers and was encouraged by Ecuadorian runners. In the first part with alexis quinteros (Banco Guayaquil-Ecuador), part of the escape and with a score in the first of the three flying goals of the day, part of a quartet that completed Joel Fuertes (Movistar).

In a second group appeared Christian Pita (Bank Guayaquil) and Caicedowho went on to fight the two intermediate sprints to the finish line, already in the breakaway that would define the winner of the day.

The carchense was third in Caballo Blanco and second in Palí Chacaritafrom where the trio of runners left in search of victory.

orchards was the strongest in the auction of the day and was left with the victory by stopping the timer at 2 hours 58 minutes 35 secondsfollowed by Espinel at 03 seconds and Caicedo at 07 seconds.

In a second lot came the tricolor Fuertes, Quinteros and Pitawho completed the top 10 of the day.

with his triumph, Huertas got the overall leader’s shirt for the lap after surpassing his teammate Daniel Bonilla, who after two days as leader fell to seventh position in the standings.

With his performance this Sunday, Caicedo jumped to the third place of the general, to be the best Ecuadorian of the test, while the Colombians Carlos Gutiérrez, José Hernández (Banco Guayaquil) and Marco Tulio Suesca (Movistar) stand out for the two continental teams in the country, in positions five, nine and eight overall, respectively. Other Ecuadorians Among the top 20 are Fuertes and Byron Guamá (Movistar) in positions 18 and 19.

We always come to fight and we have shown it in previous editions fighting the mountain classification with a title in 2019 (last edition disputed), which we hope to renew it this time, but also looking to fight in the general classification”, commented Caicedo.

The closing day in Puntarenas was complete for Huertas, who retained the lead in the classification of flying goals, mountain prizes and the prize for points of the competition.

This Monday the Tour of Costa Rica will have 79.42 kilometers of road between Puntarenas and Grecia, a route uphill with a flying goal and two mountain prizes, one first category and one third, at the finish line. (D)
