Midfielder Rúben Neves has been speculated in several European giants over the last few years. The rumor of the time, according to the Brandis that the barcelona would be interested in signing the Wolverhampton player. The 25-year-old Portuguese would arrive to compensate for the likely departure of the club’s idol Sérgio Busquets, who, with the end of his contract, must head to the MLS. There are still negotiations with Busquets for the experienced midfielder to remain in Barcelona for another year, but if the operation does not materialize, Martín Zubimendi – from Real Sociedad – or Rúben Neves are seen as possible substitutes.
Barça president Joan Laporta is a big supporter of Neves’ arrival at the club. The executive has a great relationship with Jorge Mnedes, the player’s manager, which would facilitate the transaction, since Mendes knows the financial conditions of the Catalan club and, therefore, the economic factor would not be a problem in the business.
The sports management, on the other hand, is not sure that Neves is the ideal player for the club in the defensive midfielder position, as they consider an athlete who does not ideally fit into the way the team plays. Coach Xavi is in favor of hiring Zubimendi or renewing Busquets, if the first one does not arrive.
Barcelona are facing problems with the fair play financial and cannot pay the fine for Zubimendi, who has just renewed his contract with Real Sociedad and has a termination fine of 60 million euros (more than R$ 300 million).
In the current season, Rúben Neves has played 20 games and scored four goals. His market value is estimated at 40 million euros (about R$228 million), which is considerably less than Martín Zubimendi’s fine.
Barça enters the field this Sunday for the confrontation against rival Atlético de Madrid, at the Wanda Metropolitano, at 17:00h (Brasília time).
