In the middle of the preseason prior to the start of the 2023 LigaPro, Emelec surprised this Friday, December 30, with the hiring of a Venezuelan player who has just played in the Futve League in his country.
Samuel Sosa, left-handed midfielder, became the new piece of the electrical panel that will once again fight three fronts: the LigaPro, Copa Ecuador and the Copa Sudamericana.
Sosa becomes the fifth Venezuelan to play with Emelec, after Gabriel “Gaby” Miranda, who paved the way for José Manuel Rey, Jorge “Zurdo” Rojas and more recently Edwin Pernía.
The new player is left-handed with a good punch from medium and long distance, skillful with his leg and does damage with a changed profile.
Who is Samuel Sosa, the Venezuelan hired by Emelec?
The most stellar moments in his career were in the youth era, when he joined his country’s team in the 2017 South Korea Under 20 World Cup, an appointment in which Venezuela was runner-up.
Until now, the runner-up in the world is the greatest success achieved by Venezuela in soccer, since in South America it continues to be the Punic team without qualifying for a World Cup for seniors.
In that tournament, Sosa is remembered for scoring a great goal from a free kick against Uruguay in the semifinal, to tie the actions by going to penalties, an instance in which Venezuela ended up winning.
The player comes from the Puerto Cabello Academy, a team with which he was on loan from Tallares de Córdoba, owner of his file.
Sosa’s contribution made Academia qualify for this year’s Copa Sudamericana, thanks to the nine goals he scored in 28 games.
Before, Sosa had his time at Alcorcón in Spain where he scored 3 goals in 28 games played during the 2019-2021 seasons.
His time at Tallares de Córdoba was not very productive in 2018, since he only played 7 games in which he scored a goal, but the Argentine team keeps him in orbit by making him play in different leagues, one of them the LigaPro.
