Ecuadorian coach Octavio Zambrano led Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS) to the conquest of the Apertura tournament in El Salvador on Sunday after defeating Jocoro 2-0.
With goals from Rudy Clavel and Yilmar Filigrana, FAS reached its nineteenth title and reaffirmed itself as the ‘King of Cups’ of football in that country.
The champion squad, which showed greater dominance on the pitch, reached its 19th crown since its founding on February 16, 1947 in Santa Ana.
Zambrano indicated that he did not lose the optimism of achieving the championship and was pleased by obtaining the crown.
“For me it is something that I had been looking for for a long time and I could not have found the best place to achieve it, than this institution and with this extraordinary fan base. It is an incomparable passion”, expressed the Ecuadorian.
“When you take on a challenge from a big team, the only slogan is to win. If one tries to put a good face on it, nothing solves if it is not the crown at the end. I am so happy that it was achieved, because this 19th title was very important for the fans, to separate themselves as the king of Cups”, added the 64-year-old coach.
The trainer pointed out that he wants to stay in the institution, however, he stated that he should talk with the leadership about his continuity.
“Right now we have to enjoy what we are experiencing. All rosters have changes at the end of a tournament and this is no exception. But now there is no point in talking about it, ”he concluded. (D)
