Marquinhos does not attribute PSG’s first defeat in France to the absence of Neymar and Messi

On this Sunday, the Paris Saint-Germain lost to Lens by 3-1, for the 17th round of the French Championship. This was the first defeat for Christophe Galtier’s men in the competition. In that match, PSG did not have the presence of Neymar (suspended) and Lionel Messi (extended post-World Cup off). However, in a post-game interview, defender Marquinhos downplayed the absence of the stars.

“They [Messi e Neymar] they are great players who make the difference and create occasions, but that cannot be an excuse. We already won without them. Today (Sunday) it was the collective that is to blame. It lacked cohesion, efficiency and intensity. That’s what made the difference,” he said.

In addition to the first defeat in Ligue 1, PSG also saw their advantage for second place drop. Now, the team has four points of advantage for Lens. Even so, Marquinhos stated that this is not the time to “question everything”.

“We shouldn’t question everything. Lens was simply better than us, more efficient. It was a very open game too. They are better than us physically too. And we suffered in the important moments of the match. The score hurts. I don’t like to lose. It’s normal to be a little disgusted, but the hard work will pay off. We made a good start to the season, we qualified for the Champions League. We must not call everything into question, but we must recover the solidity and cohesion of the first part of the season”, he concluded.

In the next round, Paris Saint-Germain faces Angers, for the 18th round of the French Championship. The ball will roll this Wednesday, at 5 pm (Brasília time), at the Parc des Princes Stadium.
