Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS) and Jocoro will play this Sunday in the final of the Apertura 2022 of Salvadoran soccer and will try to take the place left by Alianza, eliminated in the semifinals.
FAS, the most successful team in the Salvadoran league and led by the Ecuadorian Octavio Zambrano, arrives as a favorite to try to win his 19th title and extend his status as “king of cups”. His closest pursuers have 16 championships.
The Fastanecos reached this stage after leaving the Águila on the road in the semifinals, in a series that was defined in penalty kicks, and the Dragon in the quarterfinals.
Jocoro, originally from a remote town in the eastern department of Morazán, will play his first final in the Major League of El Salvador, to which he was promoted in 2018.
Los Fogoneros made their way to the final by eliminating Platense in the semifinals, which had just given the bell of the tournament by leaving Alianza in the quarterfinals, the dominator of Salvadoran soccer in recent years with 11 consecutive finals.
The last time these teams met was in the regular stage of the Clausura 2022 and the score went 2-1 in favor of the Fastanecos.
