Euskaraz irakurri: Araskik irabazi du IDK Euskotrenen aurkako euskal derbia (73-75)
The Kutxabank Araski has emerged victorious from the Basque derby played this Friday against the IDK Euskotren at the José Antonio Gasca on the 15th day of the Endesa Women’s League (73-75).
Those of Araski have been the ones who have taken the reins of the game at the beginning of the meeting. After a first exchange of baskets, the Alavesas have achieved the first escape on the scoreboard (7-14).
But the IDK, driven by the desire to be in the Queen’s Cup, has put another march to equalize the score at the beginning of the second quarter (23-23). From there, the game has become more even. The exchange of baskets has once again been imposed, and every time the Gipuzkoans closed the gap, Araski expanded it with three-pointers. Thus, they have reached the break with the score wide open (40-42).
Even so, the leadership of the party has taken another course when they returned from the locker room. IDK took control of the third quarter and, helped by Araski’s shooting errors, turned the score around to take the lead (59-54).
The last quarter has been more even. The two teams have fought for the victory and that has been shown in a few frantic final minutes in which the Gipuzkoans had a lot at stake.
With the final whistle, Araski’s last basket certified IDK’s defeat, leaving them out of the Queen’s Cup (73-75).
Lointek Gernika and Araski will play the Cup
After playing the first 15 days of the League, the Lointek Gernika Bizkaia and Kutxabank Araski have qualified to play the Copa de la Reina, where the first eight classifieds play. The Biscayans are fifth in the general classification, followed by the Vitorians in sixth position, both with nine victories.
On the contrary, with the defeat this Friday the IDK Euskotren has run out of options to participate in the competition. With the defeat harvested in the derby at the last moment, the Gipuzkoans occupy the eleventh position, so they will not play the Cup.
