How to achieve your New Year’s resolutions?

The culmination of the year is not just a time of celebration, beyond dinner, family gatherings, friends, the burning of the stick figures and other traditions. This season is a space to restart your desires and desires. The arrival of a new year also means planning goals.

January should be a month of reflection. It is important to recognize what we did well and what we did wrong in the previous year. Remembering the last twelve months can help us learn from experiences and renew both our priorities and objectives.

According to a YouGov survey, the most popular New Year’s resolutions are to exercise more, eat healthier, save money, lose weight, reduce stress, stick to a budget, get more sleep, spend more time with family, learn a new skill and travel more.

Here are some recommendations to achieve your goal in 2023

1) List the goals and purposes for 2023

Either physically or digitally, make a list of the things you want to achieve next year. In the left column, write the negative thoughts about yourself that you usually have in mind (eg: I am never able to play sports). Then, in the right column, write its opposite: a positive statement (ex: I am able to play sports 3 times a week).

2) Do not fall into negative thoughts

When a negative thought enters your mind, try to see yourself putting it aside and not giving it any importance. Allowing negative thoughts to run through your mind can be a bad habit and energy should not be wasted on it. Therefore, as part of planning a New Year’s resolution, consider what psychological strategies can be adopted to help facilitate change.

3) Create a weekly schedule

Create a weekly schedule according to the purposes of New Year that you have listed Try to make daily activities a routine. Let that routine do the heavy lifting for you. To help make it easier for you, make copies of this weekly schedule and post them in areas of your home or work that you pass through most often.

4) Share your goals with family or loved ones

As long as your family supports you to meet your goals, the ideal is that you share with them what you have in mind. Have a conversation about your expectations, first share the experience of your purposes and how to carry them out. Your family will also want to help you as much as possible.

5) Set rewards

You can go establishing small achievements that will take you to the goal, this can also be a signal to reward yourself after reaching them. Reward yourself with a book you’re looking forward to reading, go eat at your favorite restaurant, always without losing sight of the end goal. (YO)
