Halvor Egner Granerud proved on Thursday afternoon that his excellent form from Wednesday’s practice and qualifying was no accident. The Norwegian won the first competition of the 71st 4-Hills-Tournament in impressive style. He had an advantage of 13.4 points over Piotr Żyła and 17.5 points over the leader of the World Cup – Dawid Kubacki.
Granerud thought he had broken the hill record
Granerud landed furthest in both series. In the first he jumped as much as 142.5 meters. The Norwegian was convinced after his jump that he had set a new hill record. The previous one belonged to his compatriot, Sigurd Pettersen, who in 2003 in Oberstdorf jumped 143.5 meters. As it turned out that he did not break the hill record, Granerud did not hide his disappointment.
– For a moment I thought I had set a hill record, and then the joy turned into a great annoyance because there was a problem with the speed – said Granerud after the competition.
“The win was absolutely fantastic. This is one of the greatest days in ski jumping for me. Oberstdorf is a special place, the start of the 4-Hills-Tournament is always special here. I’m very proud,” he added calmly.
On Friday, the competition moves from Oberstdorf to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In Ga-Pa, the qualifiers are scheduled for Saturday, January 31 at 14. At 11.45 the official training series will start. On Sunday, the jumpers will start the day with a trial round at 12.30 pm, and the first round of the second competition of the 71st TCS will start at 12.30 pm. 14.
