In a busy game, Liverpool beats Aston Villa and glues to rival United for the Premier League

In his first game for English Championship after the stop for the World Cup, Liverpool managed to beat Aston Villa by 3 to 1, away from home. With the result, the team led by Jurgen Klopp is a little closer to the top positions in the table.

With 15 matches played in the competition, Liverpool have 25 points added and are in sixth place. Rival Manchester United, which opens the access zone to the Europa League, has one more point, but has a game to play against the Reds. Aston Villa is in 12th place, with 18 added.

For the next round of the Premier League, Liverpool will face Leicester, at Anfield, at 5 pm (Brasília time) this Friday. Aston Villa, in turn, face Tottenham, away from home, at 11am on Sunday.

Philippe Coutinho, ex-Liverpool player and now an Aston Villa player, who is rumored to be at Corinthians, started the match on the substitute bench and entered the final stretch of the second half, when there wasn’t much that could be done. His performance was erased.

The game

During the first half, in general, Liverpool were superior and created the best chances. Not by chance, they went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The first goal of the match came at 5 minutes of rolling ball. Alexander Arnold, through the middle, made a wonderful three-finger slap to set up Robertson on the right side. The winger just crossed low for Salah to finish in the empty net and put Liverpool ahead.

After the goal, the Reds continued on top and created some great chances. The goals just didn’t come out because of the bad day that the Uruguayan striker Darwin Nuñez lived, who wasted many good opportunities throughout the game.

Still, Liverpool managed to reach their second goal before the final whistle of the first half. In the 37th minute, Arnold took a corner kick on the right and Villa’s defense was unable to clear it. The ball was left with Salah, who retreated for a direct finish by Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool 2-0.

In the second half, however, Aston Villa grew a lot in the game and began to threaten the Reds’ goal much more, defended by Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. Thus, the goal that discounted the advantage came in the 14th minute, when Watkins took advantage of a great cross by Brazilian Douglas Luiz to hit a beautiful header.

Even so, the team failed to reach a draw. Things got even more complicated when Liverpool reached their third goal. At 36 minutes, Stefan Bajcetic took advantage of the opportunity inside the area, cleared the scoring and finished to declare victory for the visitors.
