The German Daniel Altmaier (24 years old) needed two sets to defeat the Argentine Federico Coria (30 years old) and be crowned champion of the 18th edition of the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil.
The score was 6-2, 6-4. The first set was obtained by the European with relative ease. While in the second, Coria tried to recover at the end, but the fatigue of the week took its toll on him despite the fact that he was the favorite of the public, who almost filled the central court from 1:00 p.m. this Sunday.
Matches of the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil will be played in daytime sessions
The tournament took place entirely at the Guayaquil Tennis Club, in the Samborondón Annex, and awarded 80 points to the champion. Luis Adrián Morejón, director of the tournament, Andrés Gómez and Héctor Solórzano, president of the club, presented the trophies to the two best players of the week.
With this Sunday’s result, both players secured their participation in several main tournaments next year. Until last Monday Coria was in position 71 of the ranking ATP and Altmaier, in 91.
With his victory this Sunday, the German -whose best ranking was 53 last May, while Coria’s best was 52 in April-, who has a good serve and a solid one-handed backhand, also got his second Challenger in two weeks, since last Sunday he was crowned in Lima, Peru. (YO)
