FIFPro urges Iranian authorities to overturn death sentence for football player Amir Azadani
The International Federation of Professional Footballers’ Associations (FIFPro) has appealed to the Iranian authorities over the death sentence for player Amir Reza Nasr Azadani. This is reported in Twitter organizations.
FIFPro said it was outraged by reports that a footballer could face execution in Iran following protests in support of women’s rights. They called for the immediate lifting of his punishment.
On December 11, Iran Wire reported that former Iranian Traktor defender Amir Reza Nasr Azadani had been sentenced to death for participating in popular protests. According to the source, the player was arrested in November. His name was on the list of those condemned to death.
Massive protests and riots have been taking place in Iran since mid-September. They are caused by the death of a local resident, Mahsa Amini, who died after police detained her for wearing the hijab “incorrectly”.
