Barcelona will host the start of the 78th edition of the Tour of Spain on August 26, 2023while killed (Barcelona) will be the start of the second stageas revealed on Tuesday.
It will be the second time in the history of the event that the Catalan capital hosts an official start, after it did so for the first time in 1962.
Barcelona will be the start of one stage and the finish of two during the first two days of the next Vuelta: a team time trial and a mid-mountain stage, while Mataró will host the start of the second stage.
The first stage (14.6 kilometres) will be a team time trial starting at Somorrostro beach, in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, and finishing at Avenida María Cristina in Montjuïc.
The second stage (181.3 kilometres) will leave Mataró and arrive at the gates of the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium; with ascent to the ports of Coll de Sant Bartomeu (third category) and Coll d’Estenalles (second category) and the final climb to Montjuïc that will decide the stage.
