Athlete Marizol Landázuri: There are people who have debts to pay Álex Quiñónez; cancel your family or I’ll tell who you are | Other Sports | sports

Ecuadorian sprinter, based in the Dominican Republic, remembers the experiences that happened with a runner who was assassinated on October 22.

To the emerald athlete Marizol Landázuri it can be considered, perhaps, the closest to the corridor Alex Quinonez, killed on October 22, so much so that they started the activity together and she knows people close to the sprinter who owed her a lot of money. He asks that the family of the missing athlete be canceled; otherwise, it will release names.

The runner at the 4 x 100 post Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 describes what she felt when she learned of the death of her friend, partner and brother, as she used to say. “When the news reached me about the death of Álex (Quiñónez), I left everything mine. My brother had left and it hurt a lot because I’m out of the country (in Dominican Republic). I spoke with the mother and she told me: ‘My crazy, I’m waiting for you.’ I replied: ‘Auntie, you know how much this hurts me, I can’t be there because I’m far away, I can’t go right now. ‘ And he told me: ‘I know the friendship you had, I I know what Alex meant to you And I know that if he’s not here, it’s because he can’t really come. ‘

Something that struck Marizol was looking at his Negro in the coffin. “Álex’s mother told me that very few people had seen the corpse, because he didn’t want to be seen as he was (his face shattered), because he wanted people to remember him as the happy person he was, the humble boy. I asked him to let me see him, because he was not there in Esmeraldas, He opened my coffin and I collapsed, 50,000 things came to mind, I reviewed our entire life when we started our career, we were 11-year-old children, he and I 9, it was somewhat confusing for me that instant ”.

The message that the Emerald athlete has left after the departure of her friend Alex Quinonez is: “Sometimes it is not worth doing so many things. Getting involved in problems and situations, in the end you have to live your life as you want. Yes, we are going to prepare ourselves academically, physically, mentally for tomorrow, but if you die, that stays there; then you have to do whatever you want to do in case there is tomorrow. You have to prepare yourself academically, physically, mentally so that the day your departure arrives, you have done everything you wanted ”.

Marizol indicates that the destination could be another. “Alex could have something planned for the next day that they assassinated him and in the end he died. Those things are only from God, nobody knows and that’s why I say: get ready in case there is tomorrow. So much one fights, so many things you do and life, the system, fate surprises you like this. In the end we despair for nothing, we fight or make a problem for nothing, we are, we exist and we do not realize that life is the most important thing ”.

In his deal with Álex, Marizol says that he talked about everything. “I don’t regret anything we talked about with him, we said everything. Even the last day we were in Tokyo and when they gave him the news that he could not compete because they did not place him to take the exam doping, and that people do not understand, I went up to his room, we look at each other, we hug each other, we cry and I told him: ‘Brother, you left here (sport) and this can happen to anyone and he replied,’ I feel sad because I will not be able to compete, I was thinking of giving Ecuador joy, I wanted to get on the Olympic podium and the only thing that we can fix it is to give it another cycle (4 years) ‘. Crying I told him about a retreat and laughing he told me: ‘Black, we can’t retire because we don’t have anything. ‘ That was the last time I spoke to him personally. “

Marizol remembers that he was always looking out for his friend. “I wrote to him on October 10 to ask him when was he going to Quito to train, because he had already told me that on the 10th he was leaving, although the group had already been on the track since October 6. He answered that he was going to go, he justified his absence and promised me that he would go next week and it was the last time I contacted him. Now I hope that justice is done and that everything he did for his country, people appreciate, especially the good that happened in his sporting life falls on his children.

When Marizol refers to the fact that he talked about everything with Álex, he emphasizes: “All he had to say to me, he told me there were many things that only he and I knew. I hope that the people of the system cancel what is due to pay him what he won on the track. I wish that now that he died they would not say that since he is gone, there is no money to give him. In addition, all those people who owe him money, and that is a lot, realize that Alex left three small children and that mothers need the money to raise them, so that they have a good education ”.

“I would have liked to go with Álex to collect from a lot of people who owed him. He was so humble, so human and I told him: ‘Negro, in the end it’s your money, you’re the one who trains to run hard, but collect your money ‘. Now her children, the mother, the family need to support themselves and they lack that money. He always reminded Álex to collect his money because he has children and he justified his debtors, but I insisted that he charge them. There are many people who owed him money and I know many things, that I keep them. I assume in my ignorance that people are going to pay the mothers of the girls so that these little ones can have a good education. That hurts a lot and I’m going to wait a little while, I’m going to talk to the children to see if certain people have paid them, so if they haven’t approached I will say who they are ”.

“Alex was a humble person, a charitable, kind human being. To get angry it had to be something very, very serious; still he laughed at what was happening to him. In 2019 when he went to the Doha World Cup, a tournament that I did not go to because I was injured, he told me he was going to be alone, I replied: ‘Play. What can we do?’ He asked me how I had seen it and I said: ‘Go and bring that medal.’ “It will be made of bronze, because it is hard, but not difficult.” And he told me: ‘Yes, sister, I go with faith, I go with God and I will do well.’ That’s how it went, he won the bronze and on his return we celebrate”Recalls Marizol.

Regarding the beginning of both, today Mrs. Landázuri, indicates: “With Álex we left very poor families, where if you had breakfast, you did not have lunch, or you had a snack, we ate what there was, our parents struggled to feed us with what was available. We trained 20 children and gave each other two 25-cent bottles of water, that’s how we grew up, with many needs ”. This is how the runner who was discovered by DT Jorge Casierra and Roberto Erazo remembers it.

Marizol criticizes those who publish photos of the missing sprinter with them. “Now there are people who take pictures with Alex from many years ago, why didn’t they put photos with him when he needed them most or was not successful? “

Finally, the Esmeraldeña confesses that her friend was thinking about retirement. “In 2019, when he was participating in the Diamond League, we made a video call and he told me that I was tired, but that she had to continue for her children, for her family and she began to cry. He went to warm up and at night, when we spoke again, he confessed to me that for the first time he had cried in the match, that he felt bad, that I was very sad; but in the end he recognized what he was capable of doing on the court and I told him that that was him, the only one when he gets on the match is a champion ”.
