Ecuadorian defender Jackson Porozo scored an agonizing goal in added time to give Troyes a 2-2 draw against Stade de Reims on Sunday. He became the first player from Ecuador to score in Ligue 1.
Folarin Balogun, an English striker, put Stade de Reims ahead in the 12th minute, but Frenchman Wilson Odoberte made it 1-1 at 51. The visitors quickly took the lead again in the 54th minute, with a score by Junya Ito .
When the match already seemed to be for the locals, at minute 90 Jackson Porozo managed to tie the match 2-2, taking advantage of a loose ball in the opponent’s area after a failed clearance by the defense. In the first instance, the goal had to be reviewed by VAR to confirm it.
Porozo has played seven games, all as a starter, with Troyes, and was able to score his first goal. He also entered history as the first Ecuadorian to score a goal in Ligue 1, after Aníbal Chalá failed to do so in his brief stint in the French league.
The defender was reunited with the nets after his last goal with Boavista, on May 15, 2021, against Portimonense.
Troyes is eleventh in the standings, with 11 points. His next meeting will be, on October 9, against Nice.
