It’s official: Emelec transfers Joao Rojas to Rayados del Monterrey

Emelec reached a “final agreement” with the Rayados de Monterrey for the “definitive transfer” of left winger Joao Joshimar Rojas to Mexican soccer, the Ecuadorian team reported Wednesday through a statement on its official website.

“Club Sport Emelec informs that it has reached a final agreement with the Monterrey Club of Mexico for the definitive transfer of the player Joao Rojas, for 100% of his economic and federative rights,” the note indicates.

After a hectic month for the 24-year-old footballer due to the extensive negotiations, Emelec makes the departure of the 10th official a few hours after he was free to negotiate with any club.

Rojas publicly affirmed in June his desire to leave the institution this summer transfer market, but the leaders of the Bombillo remained secretive.

Presumably the definitive meeting between the blue president, Nassib Neme, and the player’s representative, José Chamorro, took place between Monday and Tuesday, because his transfer had not yet been defined until Monday afternoon, sources told EL UNIVERSO.

Rojas said goodbye to the fans on Tuesday after the 1-1 draw that Emelec rescued against Atlético Mineiro in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16.

“I am a fan of this club, a member of this club because I love it, and those who know me know that I am not very expressive. What I experienced today as a fan is priceless. Today I leave with the best experience I have had during all these years. What I experienced in the Capwell as a fan was incredible”, he commented.

“I was already champion in 2017 (…). I know that many people at the club love me despite not having won the 2021 title, ″ he added.

Rojas, who will turn 25 on August 16, was trained at El Nacional (2008 to 2009) in the city of Quito, from where he made the leap to Emelec in January 2017 transferred by Aucas. In his career he had two stages in Independiente del Valle (from 2011 to 2014 and a fraction of 2015). While with the Orientals he played part of 2015 and all of 2016.

Since his arrival in Guayaquil, the player from Ourense has played more than 150 official matches with the blue team, registers 28 goals and has been proclaimed champion of the 2017 Ecuadorian championship. He was called up to the absolute national team in November 2019 for the friendly against Trinidad and Tobago that took place in Portoviejo. Coach Gustavo Alfaro summoned him for the Copa América Brasil 2021 and the final stretch of the qualifying round for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. (D)
