Zimbabwean boxer Taurai Zimunya died after being knocked out by compatriot Tinashe Magioni. Reported by All Africa.
The 24-year-old athlete was knocked out in the third round of the confrontation. Zimunya lost consciousness. He received assistance even before the arrival of doctors and hospitalization. The boxer was taken to the hospital, but he never recovered.
The cause of Zimunya’s death has not yet been officially announced. However, according to preliminary data, the athlete died of a cerebral hemorrhage immediately after the fight. It is noted that this was the first case in Zimbabwe. Previously, local boxers did not die from injuries in the ring.
In April, Jordanian boxer Rashed Al-Swaysat died after a fight at the World Youth Championships in Poland. The 19-year-old athlete lost consciousness during a fight in the up to 81 kg weight category against Estonian Andrei Vinogradov.
