A new world record. Pia kept asking: What’s going on? The Amusan Cosmic Run

Each of the 16 fastest semi-finishers set some record – national, life, season. And Nigerian Tobi Amusan ran so that even the great Michael Johnson thought that the measuring equipment at Hayward Field in Eugene might have broken.

Gra¿yna Rabsztyn has broken the record so much recently

The time of 12.12 s is a new world record, 0.08 s better than the previous one, owned by the American Kendra Harrison. As the statistics and enthusiast of athletics “Nedops”, known in the social media, calculated, no one in this competition broke the world record as clearly as Amusan since 1980, when our Grażyna Rabsztyn moved it from 12.48 to 12.36.

Today we dream that Rabsztyn would run as fast as it used to. In the semi-finals, the 21-year-old Pole ran in the second series. Right after the 25-year-old Amusan cosmic record.

– At the beginning I look at: world record? What is it about? But I think: okay, I’ll take care of myself, and I’ll see the record later – Pia shares his impressions. She tied the best – 12.62 seconds. It was the 10th result of the semi-finals. To run to the final eight, 12.50 was needed. Never in history has the level of competition been so high.

– I leave the competition with a smile. The level is amazing. The warm-up showed that I could break my life record, but it is known that you run differently when you warm up and compete. I think that next year you will have to run around the Polish record to be in the final [kolejne M¦ odbêd± siê ju¿ w 2023 w Budapeszcie]. All right, you have to work and be faster and faster – says Skrzyszowska.

Or are they super shoes? It must be the queen

Pia does not know how much carbon shoes help in shifting the record – it was said among journalists that they must be shoes, since there was no failure of the timepieces. – I don’t run in them. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn [mistrzyni olimpijska z Tokio, tu zdoby³a br±zowy medal] no, I don’t know about other girls – says Skrzyszowska.

In any case, the shoes themselves are definitely not running. Amusan has made great progress. She was fourth at last year’s Olympics in Tokyo, she was fourth at previous M¦ – in 2019 in Doha. And now she is the queen. Who knows if she’s not the greatest queen of this championship. Previously, the world record was only broken by Sydney McLaughlin in the 400m hurdles race. Now Nigerian has broken the record twice! In the semi-finals she moved her best from 12.40 to 12.12, and in the final she showed that this is not the end of the possibilities. Gold won with the result on 12.06! It is a pity that this is not an official, new world record, because there was too strong, favorable wind during the run (+2.5 m / s and the maximum allowed is 2 m / s).

Pia sees what needs to be done. “I am a little bit lacking in courage”

– I think there is a possible break of 12 seconds. We are getting close to the magic barrier on the fences, says Skrzyszowska.

What does she have to do to get closer to the best? – Amusan great, takes the hurdles low. I hang over the fence a little, I lack courage a bit, analyzes Pia. – There are elements for improvement. So much good that I have something to do – she adds.
