Jurgen Klopp has no doubts that Wednesday’s meeting, against Atlético Madrid, has a decisive character in group B of the Champions League. The coach wants to guarantee Liverpool’s place in the next phase as soon as possible.
“I expect a very intense game. With Simeone, Atlético never play friendly matches. They need the three points, but we played at home with our fans. We like games against these rivals and we want to guarantee the spot now”, commented Klopp at a press conference.
The German coach got involved in a controversy with Diego Simeone, after some exchanges, and held out his hand at the end of the last meeting between the two teams, in Madrid.
“I respect him a lot, it’s amazing what he’s been doing at Atlético against great teams, it’s impressive. Handshake? If he doesn’t want to, I won’t try either. It wasn’t necessary to do what he did in the last game, but we are very emotional people. I’m more concerned about the game”, said the commander.
The teams meet this Wednesday, at 5 pm (GMT), in Anfield. Liverpool are leaders in Group B with nine points and just behind are Atlético Madrid, with the same four points as Porto.
